AFM® Glass Filter Media

AFM® (Activated Filter Media) is a premium-grade filtration media manufactured from specially processed recycled green and brown glass. Unlike conventional silica sand, AFM® is chemically activated to create a catalytic, self-sterilizing surface that provides superior filtration performance, improved water quality, and a longer service life.

Designed for residential, commercial, and industrial water treatment systems, AFM® efficiently removes suspended solids, fine particles, organic matter, and microorganisms while reducing biofouling and minimizing the need for chemicals.

Key Features

  • Manufactured from high-purity recycled glass
  • Chemically activated catalytic surface
  • Superior filtration down to 1 micron (with optimized systems)
  • Resists bacterial growth and biofilm formation
  • Long service life with minimal media replacement
  • Lower backwash water consumption compared to sand
  • Chemically inert and environmentally friendly
  • Suitable for potable water applications

Applications

  • Drinking Water Treatment Plants
  • Swimming Pool Filtration
  • Commercial & Industrial Water Filtration
  • Reverse Osmosis (RO) Pre-Treatment
  • Wastewater Treatment
  • Cooling Towers
  • Food & Beverage Industry
  • Pharmaceutical Water Treatment
  • Municipal Water Treatment Systems

Advantages

  • Provides finer filtration than conventional silica sand
  • Reduces turbidity and suspended solids effectively
  • Prevents channeling and media clogging
  • Minimizes bacterial contamination and biofilm formation
  • Improves water clarity and quality
  • Reduces chemical consumption and maintenance costs
  • Longer lifespan than traditional sand filter media
  • Eco-friendly and made from recycled materials

Working Principle

  1. Raw water enters the filter vessel containing AFM® glass media.
  2. Suspended particles, dirt, algae, and organic matter are trapped within the media bed.
  3. The activated catalytic surface inhibits bacterial growth and reduces biofilm formation.
  4. Clean, filtered water exits the vessel for further treatment or direct use.
  5. Periodic backwashing removes trapped contaminants and restores filtration efficiency.

Typical Applications

  • Multimedia Filters
  • Pressure Sand Filters
  • Swimming Pool Filters
  • Industrial Process Water
  • Pre-Filtration for RO Systems
  • Municipal Water Treatment Plants
  • Irrigation Water Treatment

Why Choose AFM® Instead of Sand?

  • Filters finer particles than silica sand
  • Self-sterilizing catalytic surface reduces biofouling
  • Longer operational life
  • Lower operating and maintenance costs
  • Improved water quality and filtration efficiency
  • Environmentally sustainable due to recycled glass composition
